Cisco completes acquisition of Meraki

On December 20, 2012 Cisco announced it has completed the acquisition of Meraki, Inc., a leader in cloud networking. Together, Cisco and Meraki will deliver value to mid-market businesses, with a portfolio of cloud networking products that are easy-to-use and manage. The acquisition complements and expands Cisco's strategy to offer more software-centric solutions to simplify network management, help customers empower mobile workforces, and generate new revenue opportunities for partners.

Meraki was founded by members of MIT's Laboratory for Computer Science. Its San Francisco location creates a presence for Cisco in a hotbed of innovation for talent focused on software technology and cloud-based business models. Meraki will form the new Cloud Networking Business Group. Cisco will extend the unique aspects of Meraki's development and sales approach to other areas within the company.
